MEXICANAMERICAN won First Prize for Best Feature Documentary at Flicker’s Rhode Island International Film Festival last week. On behalf of the entire Mexam team, Evelia Filmworks thanks the jury and the good people at Flicker for this outstanding honor.

This accomplishment follows MEXICANAMERICAN’s other successful screenings as the opening night film at CineFestival San Antonio, and as part of the Official Documentary Competition at the 2026 Tribeca Festival, where it took home the Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature.

The team behind the film thanks Tribeca and its audiences for all of their support and for the overwhelmingly emotional reactions MEXAM’s world premiere screenings inspired.

The New York Times listed ‘Mexicanamerican’ as one of only seven other highlights from this year’s Tribeca Festival.

“An earlier form of media is collaged into a moving ancestral story in ‘Mexicanamerican’ from Eddie Sánchez. For his feature debut, the filmmaker sifted through hours of home video recorded by his parents, Lalo and Beby, to assemble the tale of their meeting in Mexico and move to Oregon, where they raised their children. The footage originally served as a kind of visual missive, captured by Lalo and Beby to mail to relatives in Mexico. Pairing the video with candid interviews about his parents’ passage to the United States and efforts to assimilate to a new culture, Sánchez crafts a portrait of diasporic identity that pulls from the past while tilting hopefully toward the future.”
